Waiting on follow-up after mastectomy

Hello, I'm new here. I was diagnosed with a great big lump of high-grade DCIS last month and am now two weeks post mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy. I'm recovering quite well from the operation but getting nervous about what they will say at my follow-up next week. Biopsies done after mammogram and ultrasound only showed DCIS, but an MRI later showed that the area was far more extensive than they had originally been able to see (dense breasts) so I'm still really worried at the prospect of invasive cancer. I am humbled though by the stories of others here, going through much worse x

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that you've recently had to have a mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Worrying that your cancer might be more invasive than originally thought is a common feeling for all of us who've had cancer.

I can see that you've joined the Breast cancer for the under-50s forum and the  cancer group and I'm sure if you post in either of those groups you'll find lots of people who understand what you're going through. You can introduce yourself and post questions in the groups after selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on the device you're using) and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
