Hi, my sister was diagnosed last November and when it was discovered it had spread to her brain, the planned treatment was stopped. She nearly passed away last week with an infection but overcame it. A few weeks ago she stopped speaking, we think she was depressed. But phone contact with our dad and also with ex-husband (after months of lockdown) stimulated her and she will talk now. She is well cared-for at home and I see her twice a week to spend quiet time but nothing deep is touched on

My problem is continual depression. It makes every day hard. I use antidepressants but there is no support from mental health services - they are overloaded (waiting list one year).

However I am lucky enough to receive weekly counselling from the local Hospice bereavement service, and the counsellor is really excellent.

We recently lost my mother (97)... people say I have a lot on my plate but I can't help feeling guilty for not enjoying life and finding it hard to keep going.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your sister has had a cancer diagnosis and that you've also recently lost your mother.

That's good that you're getting weekly counselling but it's also good to be able to talk to others who understand what you're going through. With this in mind could I recommend that you join the Family and friends forum group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries around your sister's diagnosis and also the Bereaved family and friends forum group.

To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' on the pages that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting '+New' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your sister's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
