Hi

My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer on Friday but we don’t have any further information as apparently he has to go for more tests to see what stage etc he is at. Anyway the consultant told my mum that he thinks it’s a “cold” tumour which apparently isn’t good news. From what i can glean from Dr Google this means the tumour isn’t very responsive to treatment. If anyone can shed any further light on this it would be appreciated. We all thought once he got the diagnosis, it would be full diagnosis, so this has shocked us all as we now still have to wait to see how bad it is. Thanks.

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that your dad has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and I can totally understand how shocked the whole family must be feeling right now.

It's perfectly normal to have different tests before the consultant knows exactly what type of lung cancer that they are dealing with. The tests are necessary because everyone's treatment is tailored to their specific circumstances.

The community is divided up into groups, so I'm going to recommend that you join the Lung cancer forum group (link) where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have this type of cancer.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting '+New' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
