I don’t know where to start really 4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with oral cancer 2 days later I had my daughter at 32 + 2 days and a week later I had major surgery. Now I’m here 3 weeks later waiting for a date to start chemo and radiotherapy...I don’t know where to turn right now as no one understands what I’m going through I’m hoping I can find someone to talk to....

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your diagnosis but congratulations on the birth of your daughter.

Over the years I have talked with a few mum’s who had a new born just before treatment started and indeed a few gave birth during treatment and they all came through well but yes, this can just make a hard journey more harder.

Have you talked with your health visitor about the challenges you are facing as they may well be able to find some extra local support.

Let’s see if any of the new mum’s will pick up on your post but as for your treatment talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helped a lot.

The Community has many dedicated support groups so can I direct you to our supportive Head and neck cancergroup.

Follow the link I've created above, join the group, then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.

You could then copy and paste the information from this first post into your new discussion or you can just join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk, so can I highlight the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
