I have been living with and looking after my sister who was diagnosed with myeloma late 2019, and to say the year has been a trying one is an understatement. Her treatment was going well until In May she relapsed and that felt like a big knock in the teeth. She has had her first round of intensive chemotherapy and will be back in hospital for the 2nd round on Saturday.

Just joined the community as I feel alone and thought being on this platform might help as we share our experiences.

Thank you.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that your sister has been diagnosed with cancer and I can only begin to imagine how difficult being a carer must be.

As the community is divided up into groups, I'm going to recommend a couple of groups for you to consider joining. They are the myeloma group, where you can ask questions and share experiences with others who have the same diagnosis as your sister, and also the carers only group, which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries.

To join either or both just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your sister's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
