I’m new to this site, just wondering if anyone has experience of medication for a cough. My dad has been diagnosed with T cell lymphoma and is awaiting the PET scan, however his cough is so so bad where he is chocking... this is now happening most of the day & he hasn’t slept fir more than a couple of hours for over 2 months.

i would be grateful for any advice

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your dad’s blood cancer diagnosis but I am pleased to say that you have found a safe place to find some support.

I am Mike  and I help out in our Lymphoma Groups.

Is the cough related to his T-Cell or just a cough?...... as my wife has just got over one that she has had for 3-4 months but has now cleared and no medication actually helped her.

I am assuming that he has been checked out by his GP/Consultant?.... if so what are they saying?

I was diagnosed with a rare skin T-Cell Lymphoma back in 1999 it’s a long story but you can see it in my profile but I am in 3 3/4 years in remission and doing good.

At its worst, my neck looked like I had swallowed a brick!! It was something out of a Tom and Jerry film. My jaw had seized, my gums had swollen and we're coming up to cover my teeth. I was having great difficulty eating and was living on a liquid diet and my breathing was starting to be restricted so it may be his lymphoma has something to do with his cough. He may want to try and use a number of pillows to prop himself up so, I was doing this for months before treatment.

The Community has many dedicated support groups so can I direct you to our supportive T-Cell Lymphoma

    Hi

thanks for your reply, he hasn’t seen a doctor for a while but the cough and choking is getting much worse. We actually called 111 and they have sent an ambulance and taken him for a chest X-ray and tests.

  • Sorry to hear this but this may help to get things moving in a positive direction. Do come back and tell us how he is doing.

we are hoping chemo will start next week Fingers crossed

  • This is good news.

    Do come over to our

T-cell lymphomas group and introduce yourself to the group and if possible tells us what chemo he is getting.
