Diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2019.  Commenced chemo and radiotherapy in June 2019.  Completed treatment mid August 2019.  Between January 2019 and August 2019 I lost about a stone in weight.  Late September 2019 hospitalised with severe case of pneumonia and other related lung infections.  Three weeks of intravenous antibiotics.  Allowed home early October but severely underweight, approx 7st 10lb, it took until mid November to reach 8st.  In the meantime, consultant declared himself satisfied that treatment had arrested growth of tumour and noted my concern about still being underweight..  Passed my details to a dietitian within the cancer unit who supplied nutritional supplements which got my weight up to 8st 7lbs.  Then came COVID.  Lost weight again but could not get a face to face with anybody in medical profession until Monday last.  Am now told I have cachexia and so am looking for anyone who can share their experience of it.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about the issues you are facing but I am pleased to say that you have found a safe place to find some support.

Post cancer indeed brings a lot of challenged and so was in the same basic position post my long treatment but a high protein diet worked for me.

I used the search tool near the top and found a few hits for cachexia so do have a look and reply if you see something that catches your eye.

The Community has many dedicated support groups so can I direct you to our supportive Lung Cancer group and again I found a cachexia mention in this group.

Follow the link I've created above, join the group, then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.

You could then copy and paste the information from this first post into your new discussion or you can just join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
