Hi my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in February this year it has been very hard as I have not really erm able to see him due to him shielding I read a lot of things on the Internet and am scared. He was going through chemotherapy but this has been halted due to anemia he is not sleeping and although he has mum he has stopped talking things through he's had a blood transfusion today but it doesn't look like it's worked I would love to chat to people in similar situations

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis but I am pleased to say that you have found a safe place to find some support.

Having had many blood transfusions it make take a few units to get things back on track.

A cancer diagnosis indeed brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but I found talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helped a lot.

The Community has many dedicated support groups so can I direct you to our supportive Lung Cancer group

Follow the link I've created above, join the group, then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.

You could then copy and paste the information from this first post into your new discussion or you can just join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends and groups to be a benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

It’s always good to talk, so can I highlight the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 00 00. This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.

Hi, sorry to hear about your dad. My dad also has lung cancer. He has been through chemo and radiotherapy. He is now on immunotherapy. He is now left with kidney problems and breathing problems. He had to have a blood transfusion and it did take a while to pick him up a bit. Dad doesn’t seem to be getting any better but the consultant always seems positive that treatment is working so I just take day by day. It’s hard to see them like it though and same as you, never know how to deal with it. Dad doesn’t talk about his feelings at all and never know how he’s actually feeling. Good luck with everything xx
