Hi all,
I’ve just joined this group. Can anyone tell me if the macmillan nurses take over your prescriptions for pain relief? I’m in horrendous pain. My own GP started me on medication for pain relief 2 weeks ago & then halved milligram Friday past by stating he didn’t want me to get used to a high dose of codine. I am in mortal agony!!
Hi and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about the challenges you are facing but I am pleased to say that you have found a safe place to find some support.
First I can’t answer your question but as your GP reduced your meds you should go back to them. Have you been assigned a Macmillan nurse yet? If so you could call them.
A cancer diagnosis indeed brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but I found talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helped a lot.
This Community is organised into various support groups. Our first list is for our Cancer specific Groups. The second list is for our various our Cancer experience groups.
Follow the links I've created above, join the best groups, then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.
It’s always good to talk, so can I highlight the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 00 00. This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00
Our Online Information and Support Section is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.
All the very best.
Hi Banana twist
So sorry to hear you are struggling so much with the pain. Within the Macmillan group at the hospital I attend there is a pain management team which I found to be very helpful. They explained a lot of things that I wasn't aware of and also spoke with my oncologist about further pain relief which she prescribed whilst I was there. The nurses were very encouraging and also followed up with phone calls to see how I was getting on and you can have appointments to go and see them when needed. They had far more knowledge than my GP which I suppose is understandable. It may be worth checking with your local Macmillan nurses if this is something available for you locally? I do hope you get sorted with this soon!
Best wishes Wongi
