Hello my partner has been diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to his spine. MRI scan showed no other cancer although his face is numb and armpit feels funny. He is on steroids now and has a telephone appointment next week before radiotherapy on his back. Then they have said he is a candidate for chemotherapy  and immunotherapy. We don’t live together but I am the only adult in my household. I have been to see him sitting in his lounge next to open window and 2m apart. Is this OK? Also how much care will he need when he starts treatment ? I just want some idea of what to expect really want to help but feel a bit useless in current situation .

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your partners diagnosis but you have found a safe place to find some support.

The guidelines about how we interact are printed at the top of the site, but everyone will interpret what is best for them but if you are not sure do talk with his medical team.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

The Community has many dedicated support groups I see you have found our supportive Lung Cancer Group.

This would be a good place to connect with.

Follow the link I've created above then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.

You could then copy and paste the information from this first post into your new discussion or you can just join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

You may also find our Carers only and I see you have found our Family and friends good places to connect with others walking their cancer journey.

Can I also highlight our various Macmillan Support Line Services on 0808 808 00 00. This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link but you may find the service very busy at the moment.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
