Hi

my mum was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer where doctors said there was nothing more they could do for her.

She was diagnosed at the end of May and sadly died last night. My children and myself are in shock as we did not expect her to go so soon. My mum was a vivacious, independent 74 year old who did her own shopping, cooking, charity work and was always on the go. Then two weeks before she was diagnosed she started to feel very tired with very little energy.

At the same time as my mum I was admitted to hospital with pneumonia, then following a CT scan a tumour was found on my lung and after a PET scan a lesion was also found on my bowel. I am currently undergoing further investigations.

It is a difficult time for my family as we are having to come to terms with my mothers' death and the uncertainty with my own health.

I am feeling so anxious right now and struggling to keep going.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your mum, please accept my sincere condolences.

Being diagnosis with cancer is hard enough but what your family is going through is off the scale.

You may find our very supportive Bereaved family and friends group a good place to talk with others in the same position.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

The Community has many dedicated support groups so can I direct you to our supportive Lung Cancer and Bowel (colon and rectum) groups.

Follow the links I've created above, join the groups, then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.

You could then copy and paste the information from this first post into your new discussion or you can just join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

Can I also highlight our various Macmillan Support Line Services on 0808 808 00 00. This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link but you may find the service very busy at the moment.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

All the very best and a warm ((hug))
