Hi

Newly diagnosed with Liposarcoma in lower leg had consultation with surgeon yesterday

He has recommended amputation below knee but as am older I categorically don’t want that trauma. Have asked for the alternative which is surgery followed by radiotherapy. I don’t think he was happy as the tumour is deep and could cause issues afterwards. A lot of intricate surgery I imagine.

He said the cancer hasn’t spread but they want me to go for a cat scan next week which I don’t understand

Anyway that’s my journey beginning now.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with a liposarcoma and now you're faced with a lot of difficult surgery.

I don't have any experience with this type of cancer but I do know that being diagnosed can bring big challenges to your life.

As the community is divided up into groups I'm going to recommend that you join the soft tissue sarcomas group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have the same type of cancer.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
