Hi everyone. My dad has just been diagnosed with rectal cancer which has spread to his liver. His kidneys are also very poorly  6 mths ago he was fine but started feeling unwell. The doctor just said it was a tummy infection and gave him antibiotics. We then got locked down and the doctor did everything remotely for about 5 wks and still put it down to diverticulitis. He has now been in hospital for 3wks. He is not well enough to tell us what is happening and the doctors keep contradicting themselves. They said he is at the end stages if colon cancer be the biopsy came back clear !! How is that possible? The ct apparently shows it. They were going to operate but the surgeons never came. My dad thought he was taking tablets for the liver cancer but the doctor said to us they haven't started treating his cancer yet !!!! Isnt it all time critical ?? I'm so lost any advise or experience is welcome xx

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that your dad has recently been diagnosed with rectal cancer which has spread to his liver. It must be an incredibly hard time for the whole family, not helped by the current crisis we're living through.

As the community is divided up into groups, I'm going to recommend a couple of groups for you to join where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have the same type of cancer as your dad. They are the bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group and the secondary liver cancer group.

You might also like to join the carers only group, if you are your dad's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not. Both of these are safe and supportive places to discuss your worries with others who have a loved one with cancer.

To join any of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
