Hello to all, this is my first post.

I am very worried about my size being a problem when it comes to the operation. I'm  due a hysterectomy in a couple of weeks.

I'm  too embarrassed to  speak to my family about this. How will they manage to get to my womb through the fat??

Will it prolong my recovery? I caught this quickly, I'm only stage one, no spreading to other organs . But my Dr made it clear 24mm womb lining is a lot.

Does anyone have personal experience to advise/ reassure me.

Thanks. I feel better for admitting  my worry.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

It's natural to have all sorts of concerns when you're about to have an operation. I'm afraid I can't help with your question as I haven't had this procedure.

I presuming that as you're having a hysterectomy that you have been diagnosed with womb cancer, but I'm sorry if I've got that wrong If I'm right can I suggest that you join the womb cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support. If this is the wrong type of cancer just let me know and I'll link you to the right group.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Wishing you all the best with your operation

  • Hi. I had my hysterectomy in October last year. I'd previously had a coil fitted in an attempt to thin the womb lining. I had 3 hysteroscopy under anaesthetic and had to have extra tests due to my weight. The consultant at the time said I was not to worry about my weight. I was very embarrassed but all the nurses and doctors were completely non judgemental.

I've found the most helpful person to speak to is my specialist nurse.

Message me if you want to. I'm about to start radiotherapy soon.

    Hi  Nina60,

Thanks for you're positive response. I'm  67 years young I'm  self isolating while waiting for my hysterectomy  OP.

I live alone, and am struggling, I don't  really have anyone I can share my fears with. My daughters are already worried about me, so I don't  like to make their worries  worse

I have my pre op hospital appt tomorrow.  Gonna bite the bullitt and speak to the  specialist nurse. You're  right, she's  the best person to talk to. Irishacorn

Thanx Latchbrook, I would like the link to the womb cancer group, please.

  • Hi

I'm glad I got the group right!

To go to the group just click 'womb cancer group' in my original reply. You'll see it's in green writing and that will take you to the group.
