I live in the north east and my family live down south. My mum has been diagnosed with a cancer that cannot be cured and has been given a time frame as you can imagine I'm absolutely devastated. However speaking to ky employers about my situation they have told me today if I was to go back home to be with my family for a period of time they cannot let me keep my job. I'm so worried on how I can afford to pay my Bill's but also be with my family. Any advice please.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that your mum has been diagnosed with an incurable cancer and it's natural that you want to spend time with her.

I don't know what your rights at work might be in this situation so could I suggest that you post your question in ask a work support adviser and they'll get back to you within a couple of working days.

I can see that you've already found your way to the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries and concerns with others who have a loved one with cancer.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if you could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a supportive ((hug))
