Hi, I’m new to this group and I think I might have accidentally asked a question already in my profile but basically my 39 yr old husband has colon cancer which wasn’t caught quick enough (despite constant trips to the Dr’s as soon as symptoms started) and has now spread to his stomach lining and liver. His first two sessions of chemo didn’t work and he developed ascites (fluid build up). We are now hoping he can be given plan B chemo but I asked his oncologist today about clinical trials and he told me that my Husband would be a good candidate but there are none going ahead because of lack of funding and resources all being re-directed to Covid-19. I can’t believe this is happening and wondered if anyone knew of a petition or fundraiser to try to change this and allow cancer patients the rights to be involved in clinical trials? Thank you.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your husband has colon cancer which has spread to his stomach and liver.

It's natural that you want to explore every avenue possible to get treatment for your husband and hopefully the oncologist's Plan B will work.

The online community is divided up into cancer specific groups where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support. Could I suggest that you join the bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer groups as you'll then connect with others who have this type of cancer.

To join either or both just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

I have had a look at your profile to see if your question was there but it isn't. When you have a minute it would be really useful if you could add something about your husband's journey so far as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
