At the end of March I was diagnosed with low grade ovarian cancer stage 3. I am disabled, bedbound and wheelchair bound. In the present situation an operation is out of the question because I’m not mobile and high risk of death if I caught COVID 19. I was offered instead anastrozole to not only try and shrink the tumour but also stop the disease advancing.

What I would like to know is, other peoples experiences were or are taking anastrozole while suffering with ovarian cancer?

I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis (apologies for the way I word my reply - I’m new to this). My mum had a diagnosis of bowel and liver cancer the day before lock down and is in a similar situation now. Therefore I’m interested in any replies you receive. Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery xxx

I only joined yesterday myself. I’m so sorry to read of your mums diagnosis, it’s a hard and worrying time to say the least. I was due to go to an outpatients appointment tomorrow and obviously it can’t go ahead, I had hoped for a phone consultation but none was offered.

Do you live with your mum? Three of my four children live with me. I couldn’t do without their support.

I wish you and your mum the very best and hugs x

    Hi  Spider web

Warm welcome to the club no one wants to join, but pleased to see you found us.

Don't know what you have been told about Anastrozole so I hopped the fence from the breast group as lots of ladies there take it. Quite a few have now been given this if their surgery or chemo is on hold to shrink tumours down but it takes quite a while.

Their main use is to stop your ovaries from producing oestrogen which can feed some tumours gradually starving them Boxing glove  Downside is they can cause the usual menopausal probs like night sweats and some muscle / joint aches after a while. So if you get those after a few weeks mention it and they can give you meds to help ease them.

There is a very active (and friendly) Ovarian Group here you can check out and join. After you join you can start a new discussion asking about Anastrozole and while you wait replies you can type Anastrozole into the ovarian group search bar to bring up previous discussions about it Thumbsup tone1

Hope this is of some help for now, take care, G n' J
