Hi,

I finally finished chemo and had the all clear last week. I still cannot believe I’ve made it to this stage.

But I am now terrified of having my Hickman removed. I’m having it removed on Thursday as long as my bloods are ok. I really didn’t like having it fitted and found it extremely uncomfortable can anyone give me there experiences on removal so I can prepare myself please.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community.

Well done getting through your treatment - you must be so pleased.

Hickman Lines - I have had 4 over my years of treatment and for me - having them taken out was far simpler than getting them put in - a lot of fuss and time for a 30 min process. You will be fine.

You don’t say what type of cancer you had but we do have our various Cancer specific support Groups where you can talk with others who have been on the same journey. We also have a number of Cancer experience groups.

Posting in these groups will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you are dealing with at the moment.

Follow the links I've created, join the group(s), then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.

You could then copy and paste the information from this first post into your new discussion or you can also join in with existing ‘discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

Can I also highly recommend our various Macmillan Support Line Services - you can call them free on 0808 808 00 00 This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link but you may find the service very busy at the moment.

Click here to see how to add details to your profile. It helps everyone to see a little about you and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username but my journey was rather complicated.

    All the very best.
