Hi I have just been diagnosed with rectal cancer today I'm 45 years old and have two small children and I'm scared what's going to happen.  All the symptoms started in August last year I had a colonoscopy in December and they said it was a solitary rectal ulcer.  But the symptoms got worse Diharrea and constantly on the toilet and blood in stool. Two weeks ago they did some more biopsies and they have told me its rectul cancer.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis can bring a lot of confusion, stress and many many questions but talking with people who are on the same type of journey can help a lot so can I direct you to our very supportive Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group.

Posting in this group will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you are going through at the moment.

Follow the link I've created, join the group, then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.

You could then copy and paste the information from this first post into your new discussion or you can also join in with existing ‘discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

Can I also highly recommend our various Macmillan Support Line Services - you can call them free on 0808 808 00 00 This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 9.00 to 5.00 but check the link but you may find the service very busy at the moment.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

Click here to see how to add details to your profile. It helps everyone to see a little about you and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username but my journey was rather complicated.

    All the very best.
