Following lumpectomy after Er/Pr + breast cancer a year ago ( invasive ductal carcinoma) I took the decision the use acupuncture and western medical herbalism as therapies instead of radio and hormone therapy. Having been told by my oncologist that in my case the risk of recurrence was ‘low to very low’ I felt this was an avenue worth exploring especially having read peer reviewed clinical articles about the negative aspects of conventional therapies.
I feel very positive still although the check up process one year later is now delayed due to coronavirus.
i would very much welcome any sharing / discussion about alternative/ complementary options as I feel quite alone out here...
thanks
Hi
Warm welcome to our lockdown safe place
There is a 34 page discussion started by a member whose handle was Cloecat45 within the Breast Group titled "To Have The Op, or Try the Alternative" you could have a good read through. Although I 'think' her route was an alternative to chemo.
She started it in 2012 and posted updates regularly at first she received some negative comments at first urging her to stick with the conventional route she was well respected for doing it 'her way' it was very much her personal journey story.
I feel however I must pre-warn you Chloecat made it through to May 2019 before things went downhill for her and we lost a well respected group member.
Have you come across the Sloan Kettering Cancer & Herbals Index by any chance, it is a great source of herbal interaction information ?
Hope you find this helpful, take care, G n' J
I will try to find the stream you mention Dreamthief. And will have a look at the site you mention also.
As I work in the NHS, I have read extensively regarding newest research articles- and this is why I chose this path. Not out of the blue by any means since I’ve had acupuncture since I was 29, and I’m 70 now; plus used herbs for many many years. I also am a member of CancerActive which is a group that was founded by Chris Woollams, an ex medical biologist who promotes alternative ways of looking at cancer- based on up to date research.
Yes- I’m sorry to hear of the loss of your member Chloecat always so sad. But to be honest I’d rather go my way - and I do really feel I’m honouring the principles by which I’ve lived most of life; and when the time comes .... well, it comes to us all. Don’t misunderstand me, I want this therapy to work as much as anyone does for their chosen route.
I will also post any developments too. Medicine, and especially cancer approaches, move so fast these days, that the development of a drug that does not cause iatrogenic illness almost as uncomfortable as the original disease may yet be discovered.
Please keep in touch if you have any any other thoughts. My kindest regards, Trwen555.
Hello
I stumbled across this thread from April and wondered how you were doing?
My husband has head and neck cancer and Is currently undergoing chemo & radiotherapy. He is completely medical model and has put his faith in these treatments which I absolutely respect and desperately hope give him the cure he has been promised. I however can’t stop reading and researching to see if there is anything else I can do - in addition - to help him now and after he has finished his treatment. I have come across Chris Woollams web site and have one of his books waiting here to be read. At the moment I am reading ‘How to starve cancer’ by Jane McLelland which I am finding fascinating, have you come across her story?
I wondered what your journey had led you to further discover.
All best wishes
