hi, don’t want to take up space so will try and keep it short. Feb 2019 routine check found cancerous polyp in bowel, told they got it all out, no treatment needed, put her on 5 yr plan, all good and clear until this jan. had scan and in mid feb told she had numerous spots of liver cancer, no symptoms at all. Then the pain came out of nowhere in mid March, talked out of starting chemo because of coved at this time, but in the last 4 weeks we are now at the stage she sometimes can’t get out of bed until lunch, cocodamol aren’t working fully, can’t seem to get anything to take at night when pills wear off, she won’t or can’t sleep, it’s all happened so fast I don’t know where to turn or what to expect, palliative nurse rang once, said I could ring anytime and they ring back- they don’t, 3 days later I am still waiting, who can I contact to find out what to expect and what medical help we can get? When we should be asking for more help etc, we are totally lost, She did have another emergency scan last week and cancer has grown. Just sent her home with no advice.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to hear that a member of your family was diagnosed with bowel cancer a year ago.
From what you've said I'm assuming that the spots in the liver are a spread from her bowel and not a separate liver cancer. If I've understood this correctly then can I recommend that you join the secondary liver cancer group where you can ask questions and share experiences with others who have this type of cancer.
As you have mentioned a 'palliative nurse' I'm assuming that your relative has been told that she has incurable cancer so I think you might benefit from also joining the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries and concerns as well as talk about practical issues around care.
To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
If I've misunderstood anything then please let me know and I can suggest other groups for you to join to get support.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your relative's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
