Hi, I’m new to the group. I only got my diagnosis yesterday. I have cervical cancer, they don’t know what stage it is and I’m waiting for a scan. It’s been the worse year of my life so far. I lost my mum to Coronavirus and now this.
I’m hoping this group will help me get through this tough time, as I want to stay strong for my family.

  • Hi

I read your post and my heart goes out to you.  What a worrying time for you and the loss of your mum must be so hard to bear.

Do join the Cervical Cancer group on this Forum as there will be people there to share experiences.  I had a different type of cancer but waiting for scans and a treatment plan is the worst time.  The additional anxiety and stress of Covid must make it worse.

I found a few ways helped me and still go back to them when I am stressed or worried.  I try to focus on today and keep busy doing things I enjoy.  Even a short walk helps. I use the app Headspace and found it invaluable. It might not suit everyone but it helped me cope during the difficult days and nights!

Do use this Forum I found great support and advice from so many people!

    Take care and good luck

    Jac

  • Hi  and a second welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis can bring a lot of confusion, stress and many many questions but talking with people who are on the same type of journey can help a lot so am I direct you to our very supportive Cervical cancer group that Jac highlighted.

Posting in this group will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you are going through at the moment.

Follow the link I've created, join the group, then hit ‘start a discussion’ and you are ready to go.

You could then copy and paste the information from this first post into your new discussion or you can also join in with existing ‘discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

Can I also highly recommend our various Macmillan Support Line Services - you can call them free on 0808 808 00 00 This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 9.00 to 5.00 but check the link but you may find the service very busy at the moment.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

When you feel up to it, it would be useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username but my journey was rather complicated.

    All the very best.
