Hi, my name is Paul and i'm approaching 71, i was diagnosed nearly 12 months ago with terminal liver cancer. It is very strange because when i was first told about the cancer it was totally unexpected as everything was pointing to a gaule stone problem. I was told the bad news on the day before my 70th birthday which was a bit of a downer, after the initial shock i asked the prognosis and was told 6 months so as you can see i'm doing very well, but after the initial shock i was able to handle the news pretty well mentally. I was put on medication and after a while the oncologists are managing to shrink the tumor but this is where my problem started. When i was told the good news of the shrinkage i was then informed that the prognosis is now unknown and strangely i'm struggling to cope with that information mentally. Has anyone felt this reaction and how are they coping.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I see that you joined the community nearly a year ago but that this is your first post. As the community is divided up into groups, can I recommend that you join the liver cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who will understand what you're going through.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
