Oral thrush - any tips on how to get rid of it?

My husband had an operation for oesophogeal cancer and finished chemo 2 months ago but has had continued problems with oral thrush.  We have tried Dyastin and Daktarin but it has persisted. It is preventing him from eating properly.  Has anyone found this a problem and was able to cure it?
