Dear all my partner went to the doctors in early Feb because of recurring heartburn and wind.  After an endoscopy and 4 different scans, we were told it was stomach cancer two weeks ago.  Today we were told it has spread to his liver and surgery is not an option so he is being referred for chemo.  He is only 56 years old and looks fit and healthy and other than the heartburn feeling is fine.

I can hardly breathe I'm so devastated but trying not to show it.  I couldn't bring myself to ask the consultant what stage it is.

Please, does anyone have any experience of this type of cancer as so far in my life i've luckily never had anyone close have it.

Thank you in advance x

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your partners diagnosis - this must have been a big shock to you.

A cancer diagnosis can bring a lot of stress, confusion and many questions but talking with people who are on the same journey can help a lot so can I highlight our very supportive Stomach cancer and Liver, secondary cancer groups.

Posting in these groups will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you and your partner are going through at the moment.

Follow the links I've created, join the groups then introduce yourself to the group and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and you can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends groups a benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

Can I also highly recommend our various Macmillan Support Line Services - you can call them free on 0808 808 00 00 This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 9.00 to 5.00 but check the link but you may find the service very busy at the moment.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

You may want to put some information in your profile as this can help a lot. Click here to see how to add details as this helps everyone to see a little about you and how best to reply to you.

    All the very best.
