My Dad has recently been diagnosed with  Hodgkins Lymphoma. He’s never been ill before and is really struggling to let me and my sister help. He’s very weak, cannot stand by himself or even move around in bed. He’s become very angry and spends a lot of the day calling me stupid woman. Am finding this so very very hard. This afternoon refused to take day 2 of his chemo tablets. I’m at my wits end. Not sure what I’m supposed to do

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about the challenges with your dad.

I have been treated for Non Hodgkins Lymphoma for over 20 years now and yes I had times where my wife basically had to do everything for me - It’s unfortunate that he is not being cooperative and giving you all a hard time.

The reality in not taking his chemo meds is a scary one and I would phone his team to tell them the problems you are having.

A blood cancer diagnosis can bring a lot of stress, confusion and many questions but talking with people who are on the same journey can help a lot.

For the treatment side of things and support from other HL careers can I highlight our very supportive Hodgkin lymphoma group.

Posting in this group will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you are going through at the moment.

Follow the link I've created, join the group then introduce yourself to the group and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and you can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends groups a benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

Can I also highly recommend our various Macmillan Support Line Services - you can call them free on 0808 808 00 00 This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link but you may find the service very busy at the moment.

You may want to put some information in your profile as this can help a lot. Click here to see how to add details as this helps everyone to see a little about you and how best to reply to you.

    All the very best.

Thanks Thehighlander so much for your reply. I think just venting in a safe place will be so helpful. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis I hope things are all currently well with you. Will definitely join some groups. Thanks for your time today

  • I am now 4 1/2 years in remission (see my profile) and doing very well but keeping a very low profile at the moment.

The HL group is a good place to let off some steam as there are folks in the group who totally understand.

    ((hugs))
