Is anyone still getting cancer treatment

My husband has been on an immunotherapy trial for 9 months for mesothelioma in a hospital quite a distance from our home.  He is feeling really well and his plural fluid has dried up after nearly two years so it has been very positive and the consultant is convinced he has been on the drug not the placebo.  Despite his last CT scan being over 3 months ago, ( he was due another one this week), they have decided he is not responding to the treatment and have taken him off the trial.  We have spoken to other friends going through similar experiences and everyone seems to have had their treatment either stopped or withdrawn.  I know the hospitals are very busy with the virus, but does that mean that everyone with a terminal diagnosis is just put to one side now.  Its very frightening and at the moment we don't feel as if anyone is even looking after him.  A letter has been sent to the local hospital who was treating him previously but if they are busy will they even contact us or just hope he keeps quiet?

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that your husband's treatment for mesothelioma has been stopped as it's been decided that he's not responding to the treatment. This must be an extremely worrying time for you both.

As the community is divided into cancer specific groups could I recommend that you join the mesothelioma group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who will understand what you and your husband are going through.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it, it would be useful if could pop something about your husband's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a supportive (((hug)))
