hi everyone

last Christmas I lost my mum in law to oesophageal cancer, this week my dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer which has spread to his lymph glands and his blood stream..I was hoping to never have to experience cancer again, but sadly this isn’t the case.

on my dads initial visit a week ago to GP he noticed that he had an enlarged prostate, so did a PSA blood test this came back as 106, so within a few days dad was called for emergency MRI and also to see the consultant who confirmed the cancer had spread to the lymph’s and was also present in the blood stream.  Dad now has to go for a biopsy for grading? I’m really confused as I know that once the cancer has spread this usually isn’t good news and I don’t really see how a biopsy is necessary if they already now it’s bad.

dads been started on testosterone to slow the spread as they think it’s to late for treatment can anyone enlighten me, it’s all happened within 10 days and it’s all a bit of a shock blur, he only went to GP with suspected UTI

stay safe everyone x

  • The biopsy is to confirm that it's prostate cancer and not a different type of cancer spread to the prostate.  If it's not prostate cancer, both the treatment and the outlook could change.
