I was diagnosed with lung cancer about 18 months ago. Within 6 weeks I was diagnosed and admitted for my operation. They removed the top section of my right lung plus a few lymph nodes.
If anyone here is going through the same thing and would like to know more about what actually happens when you go into hospital, please just ask me.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with lung cancer 18 months ago but it's great that you want to try and help others now.
Could I suggest that you join the lung cancer group where you can share your experiences and give and receive support. To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi Dalek,
I was referred to the hospital 4wks ago, put through a variety of scans and tests and have been diagnosed as having 'Non Small Cell' cancer in my left lung. Seemingly the tumour is quite large and the Consultant has recommended me as a Priority case but I think the Virus is going to have some effect on the timings.
I am in my early 70s and reasonable fit, was interested in post-op experiences.

My post op experience was actually very good. I spent one night in observation on the day of the op and moved to the ward the next morning.
The pain relief was excellent and I can honestly say I had no pain or discomfort at all. The surgeon went in through my back so I now have a moon shaped scar which runs around under my arm.
I did have one afternoon of feeling a bit sick, which I was told was down to the drugs I was taking, but that passed quickly. Once I got home, the wound on my back meant I had to move slowly when laying down or getting up. I had been given some morphine for pain relief, but I never needed it. I simply took paracetamol 4 times a day.
Hi Latchbrook,
Thanks for the information, I am still coming to terms with what is involved but am certain it will help me to 'pick some brains' and hopefully return the compliment
