Hi All
just looking for some advice, my wife has an MRI scan booked for tomorrow 29/03/20, she has started her Chemo 3 weeks ago and has another treatment booked for next Thursday.
the question
would she be ok to have the scan because of Covid-19 ?
thanks in advance
Hi Pasty,
I think it will depend on the actual hospital - My wife had chemotherapy yesterday at UCLH Macmillan centre in London, I usually stay with her throughout but they would only let me accompany her to the front door of the building as no visitors were allowed in - only patients were permitted inside.
They were making sure everyone entering disinfected their hands on entry and confirmed that they were without any symptoms.
So I guess it could be the same for yourselves for the scan. - hope all goes well.
Best
Hi and welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.
The community is divided up into cancer specific groups where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support. As you haven't said what type of cancer your wife is being treated for, can I suggest that you have a look through these groups so that you can choose the appropriate one.
Once you've decided which group to join click on the group's name and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
You might find that there is someone in the group who has been in the same position as your wife and can tell you what they did. You might also like to take a look at the information that Macmillan have produced on cancer and the coronavirus.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your wife's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us.
As has been said it all depends on where and how you are getting there. You can try and call the hospital to her contact nurse/team but as you know this is getting harder by the day to get through.
If you go take all available safety measures during the trip.
This site is organised into various support groups so we do have lots of groups that are Cancer specific groups.
Have a look through as posting in these groups will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you are going through at the moment.
Follow the link I've created, join the best group then introduce yourself to the group and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and you can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends groups a benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.
You may want to put some information in your profile as this can help a lot. Click here to see how to add details as this helps everyone to see a little about you and how best to reply to you.
All the very best.
thank you.
hope alls goes well for you and your wife
Hi
Well. It’s a good question. I’m in the “extremely vulnerable” vulnerable group and not supposed to leave the house for 12 weeks but I have an echocardiogram at UCLH on Wednesday. The drug I’m on is potentially dangerous for the heart so I need the echo to check my heart health to stay on the drug that’s controlling the cancer. So what’s a girl to do?
I have chosen to go for the echo. A friend will drive me to the hospital then go off to park. I’ll call her once I’m done and she’ll pick me up.
I feel comfortable with this. There’s a theoretical risk of picking up Covid 19 versus the certainty that the cancer will be uncontrolled without the drug I’m on. It’s all a balance.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
