Hi Guys, I'm new to the site so not sure if I'm posting in the right place?
My elderly step dad has had his first treatment with FLOT a week ago for oesophageal cancer however it has unfortunately made him extremely weak and poorly and had to be rushed into hospital two nights ago. Its very worrying as he's usually healthy and fit (even though he's 79) but seems to not be making much progress so far. Is this a common effect and how long does it usually take to get any sort of strength back to start fighting it?
Any help or similar past experience stories would be appreciated
Hi and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your step dad's diagnosis - this must have been a big shock to you.
A cancer diagnosis can bring a lot of stress, confusion and many questions but talking with people who are on the same journey can help a lot so can I highlight our very supportive Gullet (oesophagus) cancerrain tumour Group
Posting in this group will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you are going through at the moment.
Follow the link I've created, join the group then introduce yourself to the group and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and you can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends groups a benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.
You may want to put some information in your profile as this can help a lot. Click here to see how to add details as this helps everyone to see a little about you and how best to reply to you.
All the very best.
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that your step-dad has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and that he was very poorly after having his first treatment.
Could I recommend that you join the oesophageal cancer group as this will allow you to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others dealing with this type of cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your step-dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Thank you for your help,
I have joined the recommended groups as suggested and will get my profile updated
I must admit Im finding it a little overwhelming and humbling just how kind and compassionate people are on here despite their own personal battles and take comfort in the knowledge we aren't alone in this
