We found out just under two weeks ago, after a CT scan to get to the bottom of sudden onset abdominal swelling that my husband has cancer. Secondary cancer of the liver (causing the swelling) with the primary site in the colon.

I'm still in a state of shock and disbelief. Just 3 weeks prior to the CT scan we were out and about as normal, doing usual family weekend stuff.

Now, 5 weeks later, he's a shell of his former self, with no energy and losing weight and strength rapidly : We're still awaiting a date for a biopsy and have been told we won't get an appointment with oncology to discuss any possible treatment until the biopsy has been done.

I'm trying to keep things as normal as possible for our two daughters (aged 4 and 10) but it's so bloomin' hard while I'm trying to keep myself together. I'm not sure how I'm going to get through this Disappointed

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your husband diagnosis - this must have been a big shock to you. The waiting time for tests to be done is hard but clear information needs to be found before a plan can be put together.

A cancer diagnosis can bring a lot of stress, confusion and many questions but talking with people who are on the same journey can help a lot so can I first highlight our very supportive Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer and Liver, secondary cancer groups.

Posting in this groups will open up your concerns to a wider group of people who know exactly what you are going through at the moment.

Follow the links I've created, join the group then introduce yourself to the group and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and you can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends and groups a benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

Can I also highly recommend our various Macmillan Support Line Services - you can call them free on 0808 808 00 00 This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link and you may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

Talking to people face to face can help a lot so check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area or a Maggie’s Centre as these folks are amazing.

You may want to put some information in your profile as this can help a lot. Click here to see how to add details as this helps everyone to see a little about you and how best to reply to you.

    All the very best.
