Hi everyone,
I had a carcinoid tumour removed from my stomach a few years ago and I’m regularly scanned at the Royal Free hospital in London. My question though is does anybody know if having a previous tumour weakens your immune system? The reason I ask is because I keep reading that people with a weak immune system are more likely so suffer more if catching this outbreak of Coronavirus.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
A lot of people are currently worried about the corona virus so I can understand why you're asking this question.
I think a carcinoid tumour is also called a neuroendocrine tumour. As the community is divided up into cancer specific groups, could I suggest that you join and post this question in the neuroendocrine tumour or stomach cancer group depending on which group you feel is most relevant to you. Of course you could join both! In these groups you'll hopefully find others who can answer your question.
To join just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
