I was looking for a support group. I live with my father who has just been told he has enlarted prostate. He has blood in urine and other symptoms ahich lead me to believe it is cancer and moved further. Hes 84 and im 59. Im so scared for him
Hi and welcome to the community though sorry to hear about your worry for your father. I am also 59 and in my case I am the one with an enlarged prostate, it is really very common as people get older. In my case I take a tablet, tamulosin hydrochloride, (a trade name in some places is flo-max) that makes it easier to empty the bladder properly as without that it can be very easy to get an infection that can often lead to other problems - in my case most commonly epididymitis that has led to me being carted off to hospital in an ambulance.
Many people with early stage prostrate cancer choose a simple monitoring treatment, sometimes referred to as active surveillance or watchful waiting if any issues are mild.
Well done to your dad though for getting this checked out, often the biggest step in any treatment is getting a patient through the door in the first place.
<<hugs>>
Steve
