Hi,

I lost my amazing Grandad to Lymphoma on 11th January.

Now we face my Nan also having this dreadful disease - what are the odds. She will be starting chemotherapy in a few weeks. Intravenously weekly for at least 4 weeks, she will be 80 next week and is not the most mobile as it is. I am worried how we will care for her. I remember how unwell my grandad was through his treatment and how she was with him every second of every day to care for him.

I am beside myself with worry as to how I am going to be able to provide this same kind of constant care for her. I have two young children in school, a full tile job and live about a 45 minute drive away. Does anyone have any experience with fitting this all in?

Thank you.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your Grandad and your Nan.

I have been living 20 year with my type of Lymphoma and the chances of a husband and wife having the same blood cancer is very very unusual

Can I first direct you to these links to our very supportive:

    Hodgkin's Lymphoma

    General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma

    Follicular Lymphoma

    Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma

    Mantel Cell Lymphoma

    T-Cell Lymphoma

groups as these groups will open up your concerns with regards to the treatments to a wider audience who know exactly what you are going through at the moment.

To join just click on the best link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

I see that you have found our very supportive Friends and Family group but you may find our Carers Only group a good place to connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey but more importantly the carers care for each other.

Can I also highly recommend our various Macmillan Support Line Services - you can call them free on 0808 808 00 00 This service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link.

We also have our ‘Ask an Expert’. section where you can post questions to our mostly Volunteer Experts but please allow 2 working days to get a reply.

Talking to people face to face can help a lot so check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area or a Maggie’s Centre as these folks are amazing.

You may want to put some information in your profile can help a lot Click here to see how to add details as this helps everyone to see a little about you
