Recently had PET Scan and was showed screen highlighting large number of nodes and told these are Reactive Cancerous Cells and will need open surgery to confirm status. What does this mean?
Hi and welcome to the online community
I haven't had a PET scan so don't know what you've been told means either. Have you been diagnosed with cancer or are you currently going through tests?
If you have cancer and can give me a little more information then I could point you in the direction of a group to join where you can ask questions and get support.
If you're still pre-diagnosis then you could post your question in ask a nurse and one of the specialist nurses will respond within 2 working days.

I was diagnosed with NHL Cell Type B, grade II about 10yrs ago and had 1yr of chemo followed by 2 yrs of Rituximab maintance chemo.
About 6yrs ago I was in remission :-)
For the past year i've been falling ill. then 6 months ago I had Oncologist review where they spotted growth so had an op and biopspy that turned out good, no cancer identified but this never explained what caused the lymph nodes to grow, new and existing so was put on a watch n wait for 2 months.
At next review, they found further increase, so instead of an operation they put me in for the PET Scan. Results came through this week and I have been told that the PET scan highlightes "Reactive Cancerous Cell" but now need to have open surgery so that they can do another bopispy to confirm which type of cancer as there are so many in the lymphoma family. What then confiused me was that the consultant then said even if it is cancer sometimes they do not give treatment if patient is looking well.
So I dilema is understand what the PET scan actually showed?
My current status is that I am waiting for an phone call to go into operation...and the wait to confirm whats what. So hoping that someone will have had pet scan interpretaion knowledge...
Hi I am dropping in past from our very supportive Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma group.
We can’t give you a clear interpretation as this is very individual to you - you would need to talk with your team further....... but being put on Watch and Wait may be the initial plan....... talking with others who have been on the journey can help.
So do join the group by clicking on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
