This year has just been a complete whirlwind for my family. My 75 year old father was taken into hospital shortly after the New Year with breathing problems. He was diagnosed with 2 blood clots and Slight frownuid around his heart. Upon further investigations and scans a tumour was found in his lungs hiding behind his heart (it wouldn’t have shown up on a chest X-ray) and a second tumour in his liver. FluSlight frown built up rapidly around his heart and that had to be drained - around 2 pints! he remained in hospital for 3 weeks to have the breathing sorted out (blood thinners for the clots). He was releaseSlight frowna week ago today having undergone a liver biopsy 13 days ago. Last night my mother called me and said “we need to go, now”. I drove to their house to find him struggling to walk and looking jaundiceSlight frownWe took him to A&E where they did an ultrasound and CT scan and put him on IV fluids and antibiotics as his infection markers were higher than they liked. His urine is the colour of a tangerine Slight frown he has been moved onto the oncology ward at the hospital and I am scared. This is all happening so quickly as he was fine at Christmas. It’s too fast! I’m scared due to his lack of energy and not wanting to eat that he won’t be allowed invasive treatments. I don’t know what to do.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.

When someone you love is suddenly discovered to have cancer it can be an overwhelming experience as your loved one goes through a whirlwind of tests for this and scans for that.

As the community is divided into groups could I recommend that you join the family and friends group where you can discuss your worries and get support. I'm not sure from your post if it is the lung or the liver tumour which is the primary so I'll provide links to all the cancer specific groups. Joining the relevant ones will enable you to ask specific questions about the treatment that your father might have. They are the liver cancer, lung cancer, secondary liver cancer and secondary lung cancer groups.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a supportive ((Hug))

Thank you for your suggestions. The lung is primary, the liver is metastasising from that into the liver.
