My radiotherapy is over 3 months after my lumpectomy procedure, can anyone tell me is this normal?
Hello n welcome to the community.I'm a volunteer community champion but have a different type of cancer to you.
Can I suggest u repost in the Breast cancer group so that ppl in a similar position to you will see and answer it?
Hi
I see that you have joined our group but haven't as yet re-posted your question.
I'm from the BC group and had a lumpectomy in July 2017 and my radiotherapy started in at the end of September. Your breast needs to be a bit recovered from the surgery before it gets radiotherapy, so yes, it's pretty normal to have a wait after your operation. It will depend on how much was removed and what your surgeon thinks / waiting lists I guess. But the thing to remember is that the operation removed your cancer and the radiotherapy is the 'belts and braces' to prevent anything stray being allowed to 'start up' again, so there's no panic if it doesn't happen too quickly.
You'll see on the main BC group that there is a radiotherapy thread and it might be worth having a read through of it to know what to expect. I was perfectly fine during mine except for some burns underneath my breast and I think this was caused because I was putting a little too much cream underneath and my bra was rubbing the skin, but I was able to drive myself quite happily the 60 miles daily for 15 sessions, so although some people get side effects quite a lot of people don't. I'm convinced that drinking was a major influence to avoid the fatigue that affected some people as those that were suffering when I was at the unit were those that didn't drink very much. So, drink as much fluid as you can during the weeks that you are going through it. The radiotherapy team advise you to do this as well.
