Hi, not sure what to say really so here goes.

Yesterday 4th feb I went to moorfields eye hospital in london and was diagnosed with chorodial melanoma of my left eye,and my eye will be removed within the next month.

On the whole I feel positive and upbeat....prob not sunk in yet as I have still not cried, although I am one of these that doesn't hesitate at taking direct action. I had a hysterectomy when I was 27 as was fed up of positive smears and treatments, my attitude was I have my 3 kids so what's the point in keeping my womb etc best decision I ever made.

So when the professor discussed my options yesterday i knew for me having the eye removed sooner rather than having a treatment that may not be successful and end up with eye removed anyway ...so why go through all that.

Anyway it would be good if there are others on here who have had this diagnosis also.

I wont know if the cancer has spread till they do the biopsy after the operation,  am hoping it is just in the eye and nowhere else.

Thank you for reading this.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community although I'm very sorry you've had to find us.

I'm glad to hear how positive you feel after having been given the diagnosis of chorodial melanoma and heard what your treatment options are. I don't think you need to be concerned that you haven't cried yet as you sound like a very pragmatic person who just takes things in their stride and gets on with it. When I was diagnosed with skin melanoma 3 years ago I felt numb but never found myself in floods of tears. Not that I'm saying having a good old cry is wrong, everyone reacts differently.

This community is divided up into different cancer groups so to chat to others who have had this diagnosis can I direct you to the eye cancer group

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
