Please could someone advise, I had a wide local excision and sentinel node removal in March and have recovered really well thanks to my wonderful surgeon and the nursing team who I cannot thank enough.  However during the last week I have developed pain under my arm, around my scapula.  At times it even hurts to breathe and to sneeze.  I have developed a weakness in my right arm (surgery side) and it wakes me up at night.

I do not want to sound as though I am moaning I have been lucky but it is worrying me everything seems to be going so well and I worry what could be causing this pain.

Any advice would be gratefully received I have used anti inflammatory, pain relief and voltarol cream but nothing takes it away completely.

Thank you and a Happy New Year to all

  • Hello , and a very warm welcome to the online community. I am very sorry to hear about the pain your suffering. Unfortunatly I am not a medical person, but had womb cancer diagnosed in 2017. But we do have a fantastic team of experts who maybe able to offer advice to you. Click on the highlighted words (ask a nurse) Ask a Nurse it can tske a couple of days for a reply, this link will take you to a section of the site where you can ask. Please don't feel your moaning your certainly not and believe me lots of people here totally understand. It sounds really awful having trouble sleeping and breathing with it, have you spoken to your medical team either your clinical nurse speacialist or your consultant? If nothing else I would suggest you seeking some medical attention as soon as you can to try to help ease the pain your in right now. Sending you some gentle hugs your way.

    Hi Susan

And another welcome from me, although I’m sorry you’ve had to find your way here. It’s the weekend - why is it that pain and worry always flare up worst at these times?

I think has already given you some great ideas about where to get the info you need - although of course a call or email to your clinical nurse specialist is also a good idea, especially if you need to be seen by a healthcare professional or to get some stronger pain relief.

You might also get some practical advice as well as some good old fashioned tlc from the folks in the breast cancer group. Just click on the link and follow the joining instructions.

I do hope you find out what’s causing this pain and get it sorted as soon as possible. You’re not moaning - you’re quite rightly raising your concerns and doing it in a safe place.

    Good luck!
