Hey everyone

I’m a newbie here. Been reading some of your posts and hope to become a regular member seeking and giving support when I can. Have read so many similarities to my own start to this journey and have the same waves of fear. For MRI on Friday.......trying to take one step at a time but it’s amazing how my mind just wants to ‘be in control’ when there is really no preparation for ant of these results. X

Good morning , I wanted to welcome you to the online community and wish you luck for your MRI and results. Interesting that you want to feel in control but feel there is no preparation. Perhaps because you feel you’ve done what you can already. I see you’ve joined the breast group great, and you’ve obviously been reading some of the posts and perhaps you’ve found the information and support pages. I’ve used then a lot for tips on attending appointments, having someone with me, taking a notepad with me, preparing what questions I want to ask, reading up on the treatments, coping with anxiety during the periods of uncertainty. Making connections with people in the groups who going or have been through similar experiences, and as you say getting and giving support. I hope you find you time here supportive, and uplifting.

    best wishes

    Hi Curlyjoey

I'm fairly new on here as well but since finding this group 3 months ago I can't tell you how much support and tips I have had from the ladies which makes you feel that you are not alone going through this horrible time.

I have Grade 2 invasive lobular cancer which is HER2 negative and is an estrogen receptor-positive tumor which has spread to my lymph nodes. I have been on Letrozole, (hormone therapy), since this diagnosis which is making me ache from head to foot, gain weight and my hair has become very thin but guess what,  it must be working because my tumor, (Larry the Lump), has shrunk, which can only be a good thing.

I am a little way ahead of you with my treatment, I am having surgery for a single mastectomy on the 16th of January, but I can honestly say, from my prospective, that the hardest part, (so far), in all of this is the waiting for results of scans etc.  Once I knew generally what I was dealing with and the first stage of how they intend to treat it, I found that I was able to start to make plans and therefore felt that I had more control.

I have my pre op assessment on Monday the 6th followed by an appointment my breast nurse on Tuesday the 7th and hopefully I will find out more details re the op and what it entails.

Good luck for Friday and dont forget to let us know how you go on.

Ah thanks so much for responding JoBab. The hormone therapy sounds tough with you aching from head to toe!! But if it’s doing the job then I guess it’s worth it. I am so worried that I won’t be able to work through treatment as I’m a self employed counsellor and I can’t buy anyone else’s services in. Well, I’ll have to face that as and when. It’s that ‘not being in control’ that is such a difficult thing to deal with.  Anyway, I’ll let you know how I get on and I hope everything goes well for you next week!! Love and hugs xx

Just so you know, I too am self employed but I work from home, so that helps a lot. Working through Chemo is one of the things that I am trying to plan ahead for and if I find a solution I will let you know Thinking

    Keep smiling xx

Hi ladies, I was diagnosed with grade 2 invasive lobular breast cancer mid November. All scans clear so far.. I had a mascetomy on the 20th Dec and just waiting on the histology of the breast tissue and result of the sentinel lymph node biospy that was done at the same time.

I was wondering when I read threads on here why some ladies have chemo or hormone treatment first before having a mascetomy, as my consultant has told me that my treatment will be dictated by my grade which I'll find out after the breast tissue histology.

Any advice or thoughts please. Wish you all well on your recovery journey's.
