looking for advice my fella has small cell lung cancer and two weeks in to a three week course of radiotherapy twice a day. He is really struggling to swallow. Looking for suggestions to help him as he says it burns when swallowing, this is first time he has said anything so it must be bad as he usually suffers in silence.

Hi Smallcell1 welcome to the forum and so sorry to hear what is happening with your fella.

It sounds like it could be as a result of the Radiotherapy but Im not sure on that one so the easiest and best thing to do is to ask at the unit when he goes for his next Radiotherapy session as they will be able to advise better and be medically qualified to judge what may be required that could help with this.

Thanks Granny59 yes definitely from the radio. I was hoping someone on here would be able to suggest something at present the unit have prescribed some liquid paracetamol but it’s not helping. So any suggestions welcome.

Dear, has your husband been assigned a dietitian? They may be able to give advice on foods an liquids that are less likely to exacerbate the problem. Please don’t suffer in silence and raise the issue with the nurses at your clinic as they are a great resource. How are you doing? It’s not easy being the partner of someone undergoing treatment.

  • Hi and another welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that your partner has been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and is finding swallowing painful.

Could I suggest that you join and post your question in the lung cancer group as there you'll find other people with this type of cancer who may have experienced the same problem and be able to share with you how they coped.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
