This is my first post. I supported my wonderful husband through throat cancer and I'm glad to say, he completed treatment in march 2017 and although it left its mark, he is living life to the full!
Sadly though, my mum was then diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and following the lump being removed in June has been undergoing chemotherapy since August. She has now lost all her hair and eyelashes and although she is a tough cookie, I feel her sadness.
I would love to get her some eyelashes as she has asked me if false eyelashes would work for her, but I honestly don't know where to start as I would want them doing properly and then to not have a negative effect on her.
I'm also thinking manicure and pedicure ready for xmas
Hi ,
Firstly welcome to the community. I’m so pleased your husband is doing so well but also I’m sorry to hear of your mums diagnosis.
I'm no expert but spotted your post & did a little research. It seems it’s not advisable to have permanent/semi-permanent lash extensions during or for approximately 6 months after receiving chemo as if there are any natural lashes left they will be weak & it will cause breakage & damage to the natural lash. The advice seems to be to wait until the lashes are stronger. All is not lost though there’s a lady that along with Eylure has developed a particular strip lash that is designed for people that have lost there lashes due to chemo etc., they’re very natural looking, they’re called C-Lash & are available in Boots or online & the best bit is they’re not expensive!
I also think the idea of a manicure/pedicure for Christmas is a lovely idea, a nice indulgent girly treat.
Hope this helps a little.
Nicola
Hi
Goodness you have a lot going on. I’ve been through chemo-related hair loss a couple of times and it’s tough for sure. I think you’re a wonderful daughter to think about all this for your mum.
I’ve tried the eylure lashes that Nikki recommended and they are pretty good. I’d never worn false eye lashes before so I’ve nothing to compare them with.
The manicure and pedicure idea is lovely, especially if you could do it together. Sometimes it’s people’s time that those of us going through treatment value most - and don’t forget that you deserve a pamper too after all the caring you’ve been doing for those around you.
xx
