My mum has been battling cancer for 10 years now - in the last 3 years it has got progressively worse with it now having spread to her bones aside from other multiple sites. She is now in hospital for the 2nd time in weeks after first her arm breaking and then 3 weeks later her femur breaking as she walked. We now face the possibility her other leg is in trouble.
I am finding it all so utterly heartbreaking and upsetting for her - to watch her independence disappear and the pain and fear she is experiencing about the future - and in turn am finding everything so overwhelming (work, family, supporting my dad and sibling) to have to deal with on a day basis. I am generally a strong person - I do try to keep perspective, but it is very hard.
I would welcome anyone's advice on how to cope and any useful information/ sites I can use.
Hi,
My mum's had breast cancer for the past 12 years, in 2014 it became secondary and incurable. In the last few years, the progression has been relentless and the past 3 treatment options haven't worked, she's now on another chemo tablet and we're hoping for the best. The cancer is in her bones, lungs, liver, pelvis, spine and neck and I'm absolutely distraught about the whole thing, it's so hard to carry on as normal when this is hanging over your head. I hate seeing her go through this and I'd do anything to take it all away, I know she's scared, and we as her family are terrified too. She looks so fragile, and she's lost all her hair, trying to stay strong is so hard when you're losing hope. I completely understand what you're going through. I'm afraid I don't have any useful advice as I'm pretty lost myself, my mum's my best friend and I know for a fact I won't be able to cope should the worst happen. I'm here if you ever wanna talk, I'm sorry you're going through this too, it's the worst thing ever.
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to hear that after battling with cancer for a long time your mum's cancer has now spread to her bones and other places. It's natural to feel like you do and to want to do all you can to help her.
This community is divided into groups where you can ask questions and get support. You haven't said where her primary cancer is but I'd recommend that you join the secondary bone cancer group where you can benefit from the experiences of others.
Another group that you might find helpful to join is the family and friends group where you can share your emotions and get support. If you feel able to tell me about her primary cancer then I could link you to that group. Alternatively clicking here will take you to a list of all the cancer specific groups and you could take a look through it and join whichever one you feel is appropriate.
To join either or both of these groups just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi and welcome to the online community although I'm sorry that you've had to find us.
I'm very sorry to hear what you and your mum are going through right now. It must be very hard for you both. I can see from your activity that you've found and posted in the family and friends group. Could I suggest a couple of other groups for you to join. The first is the secondary breast cancer group where you can talk to others with this diagnosis about their treatment, etc and the second is the supporting someone with incurable cancer group where you can discuss your emotions.
Clicking on the links I've created will take you directly to those groups. Once you have joined you can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Your poor poor mum! I have breast cancer too, but I may come through it OK. I've had 2 MRI's, CT scan and PET scan. Just waiting results of the PET scan to see what their plan is for me. I am moving to a flat any day now right opposite the sea in East Sussex. Your mum is welcome to have a break and stay at my place just to get away and have some peace. No charge of course.
Thank you for writing to me. I'm very sorry to hear about your mum. Relentless- an apt way to describe it. It seems to be one thing after another and yes I'd do anything to take it away from her too. It all feels so truly horrible I get to the point I detach and go into autopilot and ' normalise' the gravity of the situation.
We are waiting on the latest ct scans and then see where we go from there. Still hoping she can have the radiotherapy and immunotherapy as soon as possible. The 2 sets of trial drugs that worked initially over the years have stopped doing so.
Your mum sounds very loved and having amazing support from you and your family. I truly hope the new chemo tablets work for your mum. x
