After finishing chemo in September I have just returned from what was supposed to be s welfare meeting at work [frontline ambulance ] and been informed that I should seriously consider ill health retirment prior to our next meeting in 4 weeks time, despite me stating that I do intend to return to full duties as soon as I feel fit enough, concern now is that I will be pushed out before Xmas after 16 yes service , anyone else had similar

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear the dilemma you are in.

Not an easy conversation, I took early retirement from teaching 9 years back when I was 55, I actually tried for medical retirement but my type of Lymphoma did not fit the requirement “not serious enough l!!!” even although three years later I was at deaths door.

But jumping ship was the best decision I could have made so no regrets on my part.

How to widen your question to others?

We do have lots of support groups that are Cancer specific and also ones that are general Cancer experience groups. Have a look round and see where you want to post your question again.

Just follow the links above, hit ‘Join the Group’ tab just under the main group name when you want to post then go to the 'Start a Discussion' tab and set up your own Discussion and introduce yourself to the group - you could just copy an paste what you have in this first post.

You may find our various Macmillan Support Line Services to be helpful - call them on 0808 808 00 00 This free service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link.

    All the best.
