  1. My husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer in January 2019. He had the affected kidney removed and made a good recovery. However at his first scan check up at six months they discovered it had spread to his lungs and liver. He is seeing an oncologist next week to discuss any treatment options. In the meantime he has developed severe pain in his sinuses. He will not go to the doctor he wants to wait for the oncologist. Any advice on non problematic pain relief in the interim . He cannot have Ibuprofen and Paracetamol makes him sweat . Any advice ?
  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about the problems your husband is having.

Having been in your husbands position many times the most immediate source of pain relief is important.

Nothing over the counter will do the job and if he is in a bad way you call 111 for advice as there may be out of hours cover in your area or even A&E

When is his next Oncology appointment?...... if its not first thing on Monday I would be at my GP.

A cancer diagnosis can bring a lot of stress, confusion and questions on but talking with people who are on the same journey can help a lot.

We do have lots of support groups that are Cancer specific and also ones that are general Cancer experience groups.

Have a look through the groups then follow the best links then hit ‘Join the Group’ tab just under the main group name, then go to the 'Start a Discussion' tab and set up your own Discussion and introduce yourself to the group - you could just copy an paste what you have in this first post.

As I was the person with the cancer my experience of supporting someone is very limited, although my wife has been amazing over my 20 years. You may also find ourCareers Only and Friends and Family and groups to be good places where you can connect with others support family through their cancer journey but more importantly the carers care for each other.

    All the best.

  • Hello Liv52  and a 2nd welcome to the community.

I'm from the Kidney cancer group . May I suggest you join us?.You might also find it useful to join the Lung, secondary cancer and Liver, secondary cancer groups. In all of these groups you'll find folk going through the same thing as your husband.

The Family and friends group or Carers only group  will be supportive of yourself too, as the Highlander says..Hope the codeine's kicked in by now
