Hi

Ive never joined a forum before so here goes. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on Wednesday after a screening mammogram and to say I was shocked is an understatement. If ur gonna have one then I suppose I’m lucky as it’s DCIS but as it’s in a few different areas I’ve been advised to have a mastectomy. This should be done in a few weeks with a reconstruction and apparently I’ve got good skin so she should be able to use it. I keep looking at my boobs which are pretty good for 52 and just crying but the other part of me just can’t wait for it to be removed cos it just feels wrong to have something there that potentially can kill me. Im opting for the silicone implant as the thought of using my stomach makes me feel even more scared especially as it’s another op and can’t be done for a few months. Im still in pain from my biopsy and now I’m trying to look for bras to wear after the reconstruction which I haven’t got a clue what to get. Feel a bit numb right now.

  • Hi,

so sorry you needed to find this forum, but do have a look and post in the very busy  breast cancer group, the site is organised into groups for each type of cancer.

i found my lump (a few years post standard mammograms) myself but had a mastectomy and implant as you are thinking of. It’s a longish op but totally do-able, the staff will all help you through.

My implant was a permanent one as I needed no radiotherapy, it hadn’t reached my lymph nodes. My surgeon said she would use a temporary one if it had, and then replace later once Radiotherapy was all finished, but that wasn’t needed.

    hugs xxx

    Morning

    Scary stuff eh :-/

Do click this link to the Breast Group Moomy above mentioned and when the page opens select 'Join This Group'

You will then see a button marked Start a New Discussion - Do that and ask about surgery, reconstruction and bra options post surgery.

You will soon get some replies as it is a very busy group and there will always be someone at the same stage as you and of course those who have already been there.

My wife had dcis / mastectomy but was also what they term as triple positive which meant a fairly long treatment plan. This was all way back in May 2012 and she is still classed as NED 'no evidence of disease' so be reassured this is do'able...

Look forward to seeing you around the breast group, hugs, G n' J
