Hi,

I am new to this, my Gran has this week been diagnosed with stomach cancer which has gone into her lymph nodes. She is 71, fit and active and this has come as a huge shock to the family as she had no classic symptoms and was diagnosed after being anaemic for months. Today we were told that she will begin chemotherapy in 3 weeks time and will receive this for 8 months.

It is a very scary and daunting time and the family are rallying around but we have no experience of cancer in the family and I am hoping to use this community for a little guidance and understanding.

    Hi

I am very sorry to hear about your Gran. It must be such a shock. But I can say she is very lucky to have such a caring granddaughter.

This community is organised into groups. You can meet people in a similar situation and find out more about their experiences. I can suggest you join a couple of groups here. First of all there is a very good gullet cancer group. The folks there will be able to help by sharing their experiences of chemotherapy and how they got through it.  Here is a link:

We also have a friends and family group when you can chat to others who are helping to look after a friend or relative affected by cancer.

I am living with cancer and I can tell you now the most important thing you can give your gran is your time.

I wish you all the best

    Hi Daloni,

Thank you very much for taking the time to let me know about that, I will look into those.

    Take care!
