Post-surgery chemo - ovarian cancer

I had a total hysterectomy a month or so ago where a massive growth was removed (surgeon said it looked dodgy and this was recently confirmed by the biopsy) but it looks like the cancer had not spread, thank goodness. I knew that I would require chemo but had my first appointment at Velindre on Friday and it's all pretty overwhelming. This is where s**t gets real, as they say! The realisation that the 18 weeks of treatment takes me up to mid-March - seems such a long time away! They were excellent at Velindre and went to great lengths to try and explain everything but I would really like to hear from other women who have had the Paclitaxel and Carboplatin treatment so that I can hear some real-life experiences. How have you been feeling at various points in the treatment cycle? Will I have to become a hermit for the next 5 months?! Also, any hints and tips of how I can best prepare myself over the next few weeks before treatment starts would be very much appreciated.

I would like to hear it as it is so that I can mentally prepare myself for the journey ahead.

Thanks!

Cath

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

That's great news that your cancer hasn't spread!

It's a good idea to find out from others their experience with the treatment you've been offered. Could I point you in the direction of the ovarian cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
