Hello everyone,

My husband has just been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer which is currently being treated with hormone injections. He is soon to start a course of chemotherapy which we understand adds to the length of time that the injections remain effective. We have been advised that the average length of time is three years. My husband has taken his diagnosis well and has a positive attitude, I however am struggling. I do not want to burden my husband with my fears and depressive mood but I feel a bit alone. I just feel that I need a bit of support from other people experiencing the same emotions and fears.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community although I'm very sorry that you've had to find us.

How you're feeling is completely normal but I'm glad you've reached out to this community for support. Could I point you in the direction of the carers group as it's a safe and supportive place to share your worries and fears.

Other groups that you might like to consider joining are the prostate cancer group, secondary bone cancer group and secondary lymph node cancer group, Joining these groups would enable you to ask questions about treatments and share experiences with other with this type of cancer.

To join any or all of these just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself or post a question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could update your profile with details of your husband's journey so far as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. If you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a supportive ((hug))
